ITANAGAR: Candid sharing of heart-touching stories of transformation marked the culmination of the eight-day youth leadership training programme (YLTP) hosted by the Art of Living (AoL) at its Jollang campus on Monday.

Over 80 youths from different parts of the state participated in the residential training that focused on creating a brigade of motivated and committed youth, who are ready to bring about transformation in the society.

"We were known for our notorious activities in Roing. Some people even gave us the name of Kekra Gang. We used to drink and smoke regularly and trouble people out on the streets the whole day. But after attending this training, we have realized that we had chosen the wrong path. The training has helped us get rid of my bad habits and we now aspire to lead a constructive and productive life," said a few participants from Roing. Krishna Tamang from Seppa said, "I am now a reformed alcoholic. Earlier, I used to steal money from my mother every morning to buy alcohol, ganja and gutka. The training has helped me to get rid of my bad habits."

Apart from these transformations, many participants reported overall growth in their personality. Many also reported improvement in their health conditions. "I used to suffer from severe breathing problem. But after learning breathing techniques in the Art of Living classes, my problem completely vanished," said Meku Lingfa from Seppa.

Roing MLA Laeta Umbrey offered to financially support further training of the Roing group to help them sustain the transformation. Addressing the gathering, he expressed happiness that members of two dreaded groups of Roing have been given a chance to make a new beginning. He urged the youth to remain committed to what they have learnt during the training and to act as role models for others, reminding them of the challenges they will face when they get back to the tempting surroundings back home. Umbrey lauded the effort of AoL to train youths and requested it to do everything possible to deepen the transformation.

After 32 years of 'Neta Raj' (political/feudal reign) Jharkhand witnessed Panchayat and Gram Sabha elections, which the people welcomed with open arms and hearts. Finally the tribals had the right to choose their leader who would operate at their level, who they could always go to, who they grew up with and trusted. "Becoming a Mukhiya at such a young age is nothing less than the grace of my guru," believes Varun, who did the Youth Leadership Training Program of The Art of Living, right after he was elected as Leader of the people.
