Free health camps for slum dwellers by Art of Living Posted: 11 May 2013 01:35 AM PDT Over 20,000 slum dwellers were treated by a team of 262 doctors in a month-long campaign by the Art of Living (AoL) foundation, it was announced here Friday. The 108 free health checkup and awareness camps were launched April 14 in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in slum clusters in several east Delhi localities in five phases over five consecutive Sundays. The last round is scheduled May 12. "The camps focused on detection and treatment for acute illnesses, provision of health education and spreading awareness about maternal health," said Maheish Girri, international director of AoL. According to V.K. Goyal, president of IMA east Delhi, eye problems among the slum dwellers was a major concern. "We would be collaborating with eye hospitals in the capital to conducts free eye check-up camps and cataract operations as a follow up exercise," he said. Medicines worth Rs.22 lakh were distributed by a team of 1,634 volunteers who worked with the doctors. The camps were organised under Volunteer for a Better India, an initiative launched by spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar earlier this year.

Art of Living Foundation Organises Yogathon in Muscat Posted: 10 May 2013 07:34 AM PDT More than 20,000 people are expected to take part in the second edition of Yogathon that began on May 7. The event, which will conclude on June 15, will offer free yoga and meditation courses for corporates, blue collared workers, students at schools and colleges, and people at residential complexes. The event is being organised by the Art of Living Foundation Oman and is supported by the Ministry of Health's Directorate General of Health Services and the Ministry of Sports Affairs. Rajive Ahuja, a faculty member of the foundation, said, "This year we have added a meditation course to the event, called iMeditate, and we expect around 20,000 people to participate – which is more than three times the last year's number. While yoga helps the body, meditation helps control the mind, helping the person resolve issues in a better way." A set of 12 exercises will be taught in 30-minute sessions. A day-long yoga and meditation sessions will be held as part of Yogathon's finale, which will be held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. The Art of Living Foundation recently concluded a three-day course on yoga called Wake Up-Shake Up at the Jungle Restaurant, which was attended by over 400 people. The Art of Living Baroda to celebrate Sri Sri's birthday Posted: 10 May 2013 07:29 AM PDT VADODARA: The Art of Living Baroda has organised a series of events to mark the birth anniversary of The Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. The celebrations will commence on Sunday morning at conclude on Monday evening. On Sunday, a group Sudarshankriya has been organised at 6.15a.m. for the practitioners of Art of Living at Shagun Banquet Hall, Warasia. This will be followed by a walkathon and a free medical check up camp. The walkathon will spread awareness amongst citizens on importance of walking, medication, health education, diet, exercise and stress free life in conditions of diabetes, hypertension and cardiac diseases. Hundreds of enthusiastic citizens are expected to participate in the event. The walkathon will It will be approximately 2.5km long and will be flagged off by great grand nephew of Maharaja Sayajirao III Jeetendrasinh Gaekwad, chairperson of Sheth Khansaheb Faramjee Foundation and lawyer Jeruben Contractor and educationist Nikitan Contractor. The celebrations shall conclude on Monday evening with a Grand Satsang at Nutan Bharat Club in Alkapuri. The program will be a unique combination of melodious satsang (singing in communion), sharing of spiritual knowledge, message from Sri Sri and celebration.
